We have put together some handy tips for walkers from what to wear to the countryside code. Listed below are some things that you shouldn't forget when heading out for a walk.
Always tell someone where you are going, especially if out walking alone.
Tool kit; consider buying a compass if out for a longer walk and if you would like to know how far you have walked a pedometer can be bought at most walking shops.
First aid kit; including sun cream.
Mobile phone;for emergencies or incase you loose your way!
Drinks and snacks; for refreshment and an energy boost.
Extra layers; including a waterproof jacket.
* All you need is a pair of shoes, fairly flat with good arch support, if walking long distances a pair of walking boots can be bought at most walking shops.
* Walk at your own pace and gradually work your way up. Walk just fast enough to break a sweat but not too fast that you can't carry on a conversation!
*
Walk a short distance then stretch out your calf muscles and hamstrings (don’t bounce - just ease into each stretch and hold for about 20 seconds).
Safety
* Use the pavement if there is one. If there is no pavement or footpath, walk on the right hand side of the road so that you can see oncoming traffic.
*
Help other road users to see you by wearing light coloured clothes, or clothes with reflective materials if it's dark.
